The IPC is a thematic approach to learning the foundation subjects which is taught by Form teachers from Year 1 to Year 4. It is hugely popular with the children. Units cover Science, Geography, History, Art, Technology and International elements of learning and teaching through the IPC helps us to encourage pupils to be internationally minded and aware of a quickly developing world.

Reception follow the International Early Years Curriculum. The principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum are taught through rich learning themes from the IEYC using a play-based approach, leading to happy and successful learning.

Through Milepost 1 (Years 1 & 2) and Milepost 2 (Years 3 & 4) we cover a range of units that cover the requirements of the National Curriculum for the foundation subjects, but additionally expose children to enquiry based learning which requires children to ask questions and seek answers about their units.

Together with the children, we have created our own definition of learning: "Learning at SPCS is the finding and sharing of knowledge and skills to increase our understanding." This combines key elements of the IPC to guide the children as they progress through the units.

Each term the IPC classes each study an ‘adopted country’ from around the world to develop understanding of the ways in which different cultures and societies live.

Children are also encouraged to follow the eight IPC Personal Goals which remind us how to live our lives successfully, and children are recognised and rewarded for demonstrating these goals both in class and around school.
