Year 3 Trip to Woodrow Outdoor Activity Centre

On 17th September, Year 3 were up bright and early for a day of adventure at Woodrow, an outdoor activity centre nestled in the Buckinghamshire countryside.

The day was packed with hands-on outdoor learning, giving the children the chance to try skills they don’t often get to practise in the classroom. In their archery session, pupils learned how to safely load and fire a bow, taking it in turns to aim for the targets and cheering each other on with every shot. The focus and patience required proved a real test of concentration, and a brilliant confidence boost for those who hit the mark!

Over in the bushcraft session, the children were introduced to the age-old skill of fire-lighting, learning how to spark a flame using nothing more than flint and steel. There was huge excitement as the first sparks caught, and even greater delight when those very fires were put to good use. The children were treated to popcorn cooked fresh over the flames they had lit themselves, a treat that went down brilliantly after all that hard work.

Throughout the day, the children showed real curiosity, resilience, and teamwork, embracing new challenges with enthusiasm and supporting one another along the way. True to British weather form, there were a few threatening clouds overhead, but the rain held off and the sunshine won out, keeping spirits high all day.

It was a wonderful opportunity for Year 3 to build new skills, grow in confidence, and simply enjoy being outdoors together. A fantastic start to their adventures this year.
