Pre-prep Academic Curriculum

Learning in Pre-prep

At SPCS, all achievement is rooted in wellbeing. Children learn best when they feel secure in their relationships and have the confidence to tackle challenge.

We make learning irresistible, building on your child’s own interests and opening their eyes to new worlds and ways of thinking. Our approach promotes problem-solving, independence and personal enthusiasms, going beyond the vital skills of reading, writing and number to nurture a genuine, passionate curiosity about the wider world. We focus on the little things that make a big difference, instilling habits that underpin success.

Located in our dedicated Pre-prep wing, each Pre-prep classroom has a glorious view of the Cathedral and its gardens. Our small classes, staffed by a teacher and a learning assistant, keep every pupil engaged and stimulated.

Alongside their dedicated class teacher, Pre-prep pupils work each week with subject specialists in PE, ICT, Music, Dance, Drama, French and Art, benefiting from expert teaching from the very start of their education. Our Heads of English, Maths and Science also support class teachers to ensure a smooth transition into Prep school study.

Learning beyond the classroom is central to Pre-prep life, both on site and in the local area. Your child will love regular outdoor learning in the Cathedral Gardens, while visits to museums, galleries and concerts throughout the Pre-prep years create memories that last a lifetime.
