Eco Council Refreshes School Planting for the Seasons Ahead

Following a bumper crop of fruit and vegetables last year, our Eco Council has been hard at work this term, giving the school grounds a seasonal refresh with a thoughtful new range of planting designed to bring colour and life right through autumn, winter, and into the new year.

Pupils have taken the lead in selecting and planting a mix of deciduous and evergreen species, combining the rich, changing colours of autumn foliage with the quiet resilience of evergreens that will keep the grounds looking green and vibrant even through the coldest months. It’s a planting scheme built with the seasons in mind, ensuring there’s always something growing, changing, or coming into its own, whatever the time of year.

Beyond the visual impact, the project has given pupils a hands-on introduction to sustainability and biodiversity, thinking about which plants support local wildlife, how different species cope with the changing seasons, and the small but meaningful role each child can play in caring for their environment.

It’s a brilliant example of pupils not just learning about sustainability, but actively shaping the world around them, one planting session at a time. We can’t wait to watch the grounds transform over the coming months as the new additions take root and settle in!
