Monday saw the return of sports fixtures for Year 6, with a football fixture in glorious sunshine awaiting our Year 6s against City of London Junior School.
The conditions were perfect for football, and both pitches produced entertaining matches that showcased the enthusiasm and talent on display. It was particularly pleasing to see the pupils return to fixtures with such positivity, energy, and a willingness to work hard for one another.
On one pitch, the team produced an impressive performance to earn a well-deserved 2-2 draw. SPCS moved the ball confidently, created a number of chances, and showed excellent determination throughout. Goals from Cooper and Nicholas ensured the scores remained level in a closely contested match, while the team demonstrated great composure and teamwork when responding to periods of pressure from the opposition.
The second team faced a strong City of London Junior School side but competed admirably from the first whistle to the last. Despite battling hard, showing tremendous spirit, and working tirelessly for each other, they were ultimately unable to overcome their opponents. Nevertheless, SPCS never allowed their heads to drop and continued to represent the school with resilience, commitment, and excellent sportsmanship.
Across both matches, the most pleasing aspect was the attitude displayed by all of our players. Their support for teammates, respect for opponents, and willingness to give their best effort embodied the values we strive to promote through school sport. It was a fantastic way to begin the fixture programme, and we look forward to seeing the pupils continue to develop and enjoy their football throughout the term.
